With a shared commitment to social impact, these fellows are poised to tackle Sexual and Gender Based violence in their communities. We can’t wait to see the incredible work they’ll accomplish on their journey to becoming powerful agents of change after this three months of training.

Building a Safe and Supportive Community

ASVIOL Support Initiative, in collaboration with @unfpanigeria and @aunigeria organized a three-day project titled “Building a Safe and Supportive Community: Effective Strategies for Responding to Sexual Violence in Borno State.” The UNFPA Micro grant activity was held in the Elyakub camp, Umarari layin Bayan Makaranta community, and Gonidamgari Wards in Maiduguri, Borno State. The goal of this initiative was to tackle the high rates of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Maiduguri, with a focus on displaced women and girls affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. The initiative aimed to develop effective strategies and support services to combat sexual violence, as well as to provide capacity-building for women as community leaders.

ASVIOL Collaboration with Nigerian meteorological Agency

Workplace harassment is any unwelcome behavior in a work environment that creates a hostile, intimidating, or offensive atmosphere for an individual or group. ASVIOL Support initiative in collaboration with the Nigerian meteorological Agency @officialnimetng (NiMet) is honored to have led a crucial training for NiMet staff on “Addressing Harassment and all its forms in the workplace and improving workplace dynamics”. Together, we can create safer and more inclusive environments.

Community Outreach Nayinawa Community

Our outreach is more than just raising awareness-it’s about empowering communities with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to break the cycle of violence. ASVIOL Support Initiative recently held an outreach to sensitize the women and children of Nayinawa Community Damaturu of Yobe State on Sexual and Gender Based Violence. Through open dialogue and education, the team empowered 100 women in the community to recognize, prevent, and stand against SGBV

Nimet training

ASVIOL Support Initiative is proud to have partnered with the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (@officialnimetng) to deliver a comprehensive training program for NiMet staff on “Addressing Harassment and Improving Workplace Dynamics.”

Bricks Point Hotel Training

ASVIOL Support Initiative recently conducted a comprehensive training program for the staff of @brickspoint_asokoro, focusing on “Combating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in the Hospitality Industry”.
This interactive and informative session aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to identify, prevent, and respond to incidents of SGBV within their establishments. This initiative demonstrates our organization’s commitment to addressing SGBV in diverse settings and supporting the development of inclusive and respectful communities.

Community Engagement

Citizens Plenary in Partnership with AIT

ASVIOL Support Initiative, in collaboration with UNFPA and AUN, organized a three-day brainstorming session with women leaders from three communities in Borno State. 

The goal was to develop effective strategies to build a safe and supportive community and respond to sexual violence in Borno State.

Training and Facilitation

Nigerian Army Training

In furtherance of our organization’s dedication to combating sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), we collaborated with the Nigerian Army Women’s Command to deliver a specialized training session.

The workshop, focused on addressing sexual violence in military and domestic contexts, provided a platform for 300 women soldiers to
acquire critical knowledge and skills. This initiative underscores our commitment to empowering key stakeholders and promoting a culture of zero tolerance for SGBV.

Slum to Stage

On November 2nd 2024, ASVIOL Support Initiative collaborated with @slumtostage to implement a groundbreaking intervention at the Durumi IDP Camp.

This joint initiative aimed to harness the transformative power of art to heal, inspire, and build resilience among vulnerable internally displaced persons (IDPs), with a specific focus on addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

16 Days of Activism

The Executive Director of ASVIOL Support Initiative, moderated an engaging breakfast debate panel session hosted by the french Embassy discussing the topic “What real accountability looks like in the fight against gender based violence “.
Also, as part of the 16 days of Activism, ASVIOL Support Initiative was one of the partners towards the launch of the ” GBV AVENGERS” educational game, an innovative tool designed to raise and combat gender based violence.

Sang pour Sang project launch

We launched the “Sang pour Sang” flow with dignity project funded by  the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) through Fos Feminista.

This project aims to challenge and break the stigma surrounding menstruation, ensuring that women and menstruating individuals can manage their menstrual health with dignity. Our goal is to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

The conversation started with imagining the world we want to live in, which is one that’s free from sexual violence to discussing practical steps and getting so much advice and wisdom on how to achieve our vision..

Courtesy visit to the Embassy of Sweden in Nigeria

Our team led by Asviol Support Initiative’s Executive Director, Hassana

Maina, paid a visit to the Embassy of Sweden in Nigeria, where we had a

fruitful discussion on collaborative plans, activities, and future prospects that will drive meaningful impact.

 

A key highlight of our visit was sharing our initiative on engaging men as

allies in combating SGBV and also gaining insights into the Embassy’s

priority areas in Nigeria, therefore laying the groundwork for potential

collaborations.
